History of Our Family Group Project

Our project officially began in January 2003 at the encouragement of Dinah Dalton McCloud. By March, Louis Dolton had agreed to serve as the project administrator. He later invited Melanie Crain to join him in administering the project.  Melanie had been instrumental through the years in organizing genealogical research for the Virginia Daltons, editing the Dalton Gang Newsletter and the Dalton Journal.  Louis performed his duties as administrator for fifteen years until he retired from the position in August 2018.  In that same month, Jim Klumpp agreed to join the project as an administrator.  He has been active in researching these Daltons for nearly a half century and has worked with several of our members in interpreting and advancing their results.

The company we use is Family Tree DNA which has provided the tests and the lab results, has answered many difficult questions for us, and has shared helpful information about DNA testing both on their website and in their newsletter. Take a look at the company: Family Tree DNA
